Artist's Comments: Deborah Strong was born and raised in the Fraser Valley of British Columbia, Canada. She graduated with a certificate in Fine Arts (Graphic Communication specialty) from the University College of the Fraser Valley in 1981, followed in 1989 by a certificate in computer graphics from Douglas College. Her career has taken a dual path that encompasses both fine art and graphic design and she has continued her education by working part-time towards an undergraduate degree.

Her love of adventure has taken her to Canada’s West Coast Trail, on 100-mile cross-country walks in the United Kingdom, and sailing junkets in the Caribbean. She has an abiding love of the outdoors, ranging from the rugged BC coastline, to rambling forest walks, to the serenity of hours spent pottering in her own garden. An avid equestrian for many years, she spent untold hours exploring Fraser Valley roads and trails with her horse Duke. Sadly Duke passed away in 2003 at the venerable age of 30 so she is now accompanied on foot by her collie Riley.

Animals have always played a key role in Deborah’s life, and her connection with them is reflected in her art. Known for her intimate portrayals of a variety of creatures, her work has been featured in galleries across Canada. Her flair for colour and her innate ability to capture the essence of her subjects are the hallmarks of her work. She enjoys working in a variety of media including hand-painted silk, coloured pencil, rice-paper batik, collage, and oil pastel. Her silk paintings, among other pieces, have been collected by individuals across North America. Additionally, she has completed numerous portraits of animals on commission, to the delight and satisfaction of her clients.

Deborah’s work is not currently featured in any galleries. Enquiries about commissions and available pieces can be directed to her home studio at ’catnmouse@telus.net’. Deborah currently resides in Langley, BC with her husband and their collection of animal companions.
