| Artist's Comments: | Dave grew up in South Burnaby but now lives in Surrey. As a child, he spent many a day exploring the forest around the Deer Lake area. This instilled in him a love for nature and a preference for drawing animials. He is a self-taught artist with a style that puts an emphasis on the musculature and details of his subjects. Dave didn’t start painting until he was 28. He immediately fell in love with the usage of colour and the new medium of oils. He switched to painting with acrylics four years later and found that the medium was better for the way he liked to paint. After painting mostly wildlife for about twenty years, Dave’s focus has, in the last two years, switched to painting people. He looks for subjects with faces that have a strong character and builds up the composition around that aspect of the subject. He likes his paintings to relate to a story or mood for the viewer. |
